What is the Riff?
It all began with this: Ok? what's the bottom line here? Seriously??..I get e-mails and posts about Flyers wanting coming to Nashville to fly together. It's kinda mid East central for the USA...But I've seen that it's a great idea.. but in reality most would rather save for a new heli than spend hard earned cash on a plane ticket...even if it's a vacation..( I know Helicopter addicts?!?!)I've been listening and thinking about it lately...( not that I need the stress!)..But if I could find an indoor arena. Or some place we could stay up late...talk and fly or just hang out together for the weekend how many would seriously make a decision to come? We'd have to plan far ahead enough for folks to save up money for the event.. It would be something special to be together..( and the wives might like taking the Home of the Stars Tour. Music City or Memphis and Elvis's graceland...LOL )But it would be a lot of work too??..So think about it...and let me know... (Posted by Radd long ago!) So, it is a get together of Electric Helicopters Pilots that is happening in May 24th to May 28th in Nashville, Tennessee this year. How much it will cost?
The Camp belongs to us
for the last week in May... There is no minimum...$10 per person for
lodging and $15 each for food ..(but you have to kill
your own meat) (guns are not provided)(choking, sticks, rock throw
hunting is permissible).(lots of possum and squirrels) around. I
believe every meal will consist of beans and chocolate....and
anything else that Q brought with him...It is a Christian
Camp...you will have to lean over the fence to drink...however the
next door neighbor is a policeman with the vice squad... Remember, $125 gets you 5 days heli flyin', a chance to meet all the other guys, and a chance to see the GOLDEN HELI. Oh yeah, nearly forgot, and a roof over your head and food for the whole 5 days too. (At least I think that's right, but check it with RADD) |

What we will do?
Maybe fishing when no one is around...canoeing, Bar-b-queing..campfires...swimming, working on heli's, eating, laying around and flying some more..going down town to the wild horse watching the stars sing and having a $22.00 steak cooked in butter and garlic...a whole week?...If you don't make it....well ...you missed a once in a lifetime vacation....But I'll be here...in a folding chair..listening to the mocking birds during the day and the crickets at night...and...flying my mighty micros in the lodge...So....heheeeee I don't care.....If you don't come...I can wear my funny hat and no one will laugh.... But mainly Flying, Crashing and talking about RC helis. We have heard that someone is going to break the world flight time record and we will attempt as well to create a record of biggest number of electrics helis flying at the same time. May they are only rumors! |

How can you carry your helis to the Riff?
I came up with two solutions. The first solution is to take the ECO with you in 1 piece. Build a box like the one from Wolf_6, but make the top flip open. This way you can use every little bit of space around the heli for your Tx, batteries, charger, tools, etc.... The heavy stuff can be stored in compartment below the tail boom and the lighter stuff in compartment in the lid above the tail boom. The compartments will allow to lock up the ECO pretty tightly using some packing foam blocks.The second solution is to take the boom and blades off This makes the ECO pretty compact, but doesn't allow a lot of space for the extras. To solve this I was thinking of making a tool box that can be attached to the helicopter box. Using some pegs and latches this is pretty easy to do. In the tool box you can store everything from you Tx, batteries, leasure battery, tools, spares, .... Adding some wheels to the side of the tool box, like a suitcase, will allow the transport case to be moved very easily. Of course, combinations of the above are possible and sometimes necessary. I wouldn't be able to store tools in the case when transporting a Hind Mi-24 scale body. (Posted by Q) And here is what finally Q did for transporting his helis and other stuff. He used foam boards and cut crevices with a hot wire. The different trays are stacked and taped together with painters tape. It makes one big solid block. This is then put in a nylon bag for further protection. It has proven to be very strong.

Other definitions for the Riff
Its something Radd is hosting at Nashville TN or should I say Fun Fly for eco owners, and piccolo owners. Its at a big camp were they get to fly and do their stuff with their models. Last thing I remember is trying to fly more than 10-20 ecos at the same time? Are you guys going to give that a shot? |
