Magnetic Mayhem Reverse - MMR
The MMR is a brushed can "buggy" motor that can be used
in the Eco 8. You should note the "R", which means that
this motor runs in REVERSE, compared to most "buggy"
motors. It is inexpensive motor, about $20.00. You can purchase
this motor at just about any hobby shop. There are a few things you
should know and might want to do with this motor. Purchase some
extra brushes when you buy the motor. For about $4.00, it's
worth it, plus you save shipping if you purchase the replacements
now, instead of at a later date. You will also want to consider
replacing the bushings with bearings. They are easy to replace.
However, I strongly recommend that you want to do this before
soldering the capacitors to the motor.

Q. What size bearings do you need?
A. 1/8 x 3/8. You will need 2.
Q. Why do you need to solder capacitors on your MMR?
A. The capacitors are there to try to absorb "spikes" and
to reduce sparking so as not to interfere with the radio
reception.
Q. What is the shaft diameter of the MMR?
A. 3.2mm
Q. What pinion should you use with the MMR?
A. The 15t is recommended, with a 8-cell battery.
Q. How do I installe the bearings?
A. You will have to remove the brush hood to install them. Slightly
annoying but not impossible. You'll have to bend back the 2
small lock tabs on the sides that retain the hood, remove the
brushes from the hood, and then gently work the hood up out of the
can. Knock out the bushings, install the bearings, and re-assemble.
"Thanks HarRomeo".
Q. Do I need to break in this motor?
A. You should take some time to break in your brushed motors. There
are many ways to do it. You should break in any motor with no load
on it. Break it in on low voltage for quite a bit of time, you can
run it on 2 x 1.5 "D" cell batteries until they are dead
or it has also been suggested to run the motor at low voltage 1.5v
to 3.3v for up to 2 days straight. If you are converting a PC Power
Supply, you will have a 3.3v line there.
Q. Do I need to clean my MMR?
A. You should clean brushed motors every 5 flights or so. Never
clean a motor when it's hot.
Q. Is there anything else I need for my MMR?
A. You should run a cooling fan or heat sink on your MMR. A
standard 540 CAN motor heatsink will fit the MMR nicely. Probably
cost around $8.00.
